The Netherlands recorded 35,521 more confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours on Friday. This is the highest number since the beginning of the epidemic.

The Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, announced on Friday afternoon that restrictions would be eased in the country and that shops described as “non-essential” could reopen on Saturday.
However, bars, restaurants and museums will continue to close until at least January 25.
