Lewandowski finished second in the France Football Player of the Year poll for 2021. He came home with a figurine of the best striker. Immediately after the end of the referendum, he congratulated the Ballon d’Or winners. Lionel Messi won among the men, and Alexia Putillas among the women.
“Congratulations to Leo Messi and Alexia Putillas, + Ballon d’Or + winners. Congratulations to all the nominated players too!” – The Polish striker wrote on Twitter.
Thank you so much
Then he turned to the journalists who decided to award the prize.
Lewandowski kicked off his entry: “Thank you to every journalist who voted for me, believing my accomplishments were important in 2021.”
Of course, the player emphasized that winning the award is a great advantage for his teammates and the support he receives. From fans, colleagues but most of all from relatives. He devoted most of the words to them.
“No player gets individual awards without a strong team and loyal fans. In my case it is no different. I would like to thank my team. Bayern for giving me the opportunity to succeed and reach my dreams. To my friends from the Polish national team and from Munich “- he wrote.
“And most importantly, thanks to my family.” Thank you mom, thank you Anna – you are the love of my life and my best friend. I would like to thank Sister Melina, my friends and all the management who are the basis of my achievements.”
There is no big difference
Messi won the Ballon d’Or for the seventh time in his career. Lewandowski was defeated by only 33 points. The Argentine scored 613 goals, and Bayern Munich scored 580.
Only Poles were among the top three in this prestigious poll – in 1974 Kazimierz Dina took third place, and in 1982 Zbigniew Bunyek also took third place.
Last year, France Football canceled the referendum due to the COVID-19 pandemic
