Ceasefire after violent clash | Hollandsposten

Early Friday, the countries then announced that they had agreed to a ceasefire after the latest clash on the disputed border, in which more than 50 people were killed last year.

The two countries agree to withdraw their forces, coordinate border patrols, and ensure the flow of traffic on a road that extends between the two countries.

“Currently, the situation on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan is stable. The causes and factors of the border conflict are being studied by a joint commission of relevant structures of both parties,” said a statement issued by the Tajik National Security Committee.

On Friday, the Kyrgyzstan Ministry of Health said that at least 11 of the country’s citizens have been infected. About 1,500 Kyrgyz citizens were evacuated from the villages near the site of the clash.

The fighting came after the Tajiks closed a road between two Kyrgyz cities passing through Tajik territory. The road was opened after negotiations, but then the bombing began, all according to Kyrgyz information – from the point of view of the Tajiks, information was scarce.
