The government wants to provide more support for dentistry for certain groups of patients – and less for others.

– The goal is to better direct dental care resources to the patients who need them most, says Social Affairs Minister Jakob Forsmed (KD).

The government commissioned the National Board of Health and Social Care to develop a national model for risk assessment in dental care.

– Today, those with good oral health can sometimes be contacted more than is warranted. They will be allowed to go less often, says Jacob Forsmed.

– People with poor oral health need to go more often. It can concern people with disabilities and patients suffering from dry mouth.

Already today, these patients are entitled to special support for dental care. However, Jacob Forsmed believes that the current system does not adequately meet the needs of these patients.

Today, there is no unified system at the national level for risk assessment. How often we will contact you varies depending on where you live and where you are going. I find it unsatisfactory.

The National Board of Health and Social Welfare is expected to complete its mission in March 2025.

– The idea is also that we will implement it next year. In this regard, we also want to prepare a dental care reform that deals with improving high-cost protection for older people with poor oral health.
