Kamala Harris has made her first public appearance since US President Joe Biden dropped out of the election campaign. Harris is now supported by more and more heavyweight Democrats.
Harris, who Biden has endorsed as the new Democratic presidential nominee, spoke at a public event in Washington for the 2023-24 college championship teams.
“President Joe Biden is feeling much better today,” Harris began, referring to the president’s COVID-19 diagnosis.
She then went on to praise Biden and his work, which he has been able to do over the past nearly four years as President of the United States.

Meets with employees in Delaware
She continues on to Delaware for a meeting with campaign staff at her headquarters. She writes on X according to NBC News.
“The day is over. 105 minutes left. Together we will win this.”
Kamala Harris is not yet officially the Democratic nominee. A person close to her said she spent more than 10 hours Sunday calling Democratic leaders, members of Congress, state governors and others to drum up support as a presidential candidate.

Harris' campaign team announced Monday that donations worth $81 million, equivalent to about 860 million crowns, had reached the campaign's coffers in the past 24 hours.
Backed by heavyweights
More and more Democratic heavyweights have come forward and said they stand behind Harris. Among the latest to join the list is political veteran and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Pelosi has previously expressed concerns about Biden’s chances of defeating Trump.
So do Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and Illinois Governor and billionaire JB Pritzker.
“She is a former attorney general, a reproductive rights advocate, and I know she supports Michigan,” Whitmer said in a statement.
Several governors are seen as potential vice presidential candidates and horses for Harris.
Among the prominent Democrats who have not yet endorsed Harris are Senate and House leaders Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries, respectively. They will meet with Harris on Monday, the BBC reported.
Jeffries promises there will be more to say about the “way forward” once the meeting is over.
Biden defeats Harris
President Joe Biden announced Sunday that he was stepping down from the campaign against his rival Donald Trump. The decision came after a disastrous televised debate against Trump on June 27. Biden, 81, gave a confused and weak impression, sparking widespread concern and discontent among Democrats.
Despite increasingly weak support from top Democrats, Biden has long maintained that he intends to continue his candidacy and campaign against Trump.
When he decided to surrender, Kamala Harris was one of the first to be informed.
