A majority of Democrats believe Vice President Kamala Harris would be fine as president.

A majority of Democrats think Vice President Kamala Harris would be a good president. But the same is not true for Americans as a whole, according to a new study.

About six in 10 Democrats in the United States think the vice president would do a good job as president, according to a new survey from The Associated Press and NORC Polling. Only two in 10 think she would not.

Since President Joe Biden’s failed debate with presidential candidate Donald Trump on June 27, many Democrats have said that Kamala Harris should be the Democratic nominee in this fall’s election. Harris, on the other hand, has remained loyal to Biden and continues to support him.

Oakley Graham, a 30-year-old Democrat from Greenwood, Missouri, told The Associated Press he would be more enthusiastic about endorsing Harris.

“It would be nice to see a person of color, a woman, or a younger person step up and lead,” says Oakley Graham. “I hope it inspires the younger generation to get more involved.”

As for Americans overall, they are more skeptical about how Harris would perform as president than Democrats in the poll. Only about three in ten American adults say Harris would be a good president.

About one in 10 Americans say they don't know enough to have an opinion about Harris, while nearly everyone has an opinion about Biden.
