Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin (S) appeared on an unannounced visit to Ukraine.
Marin met President Zelensky and visited the hard-hit suburbs of Irbin and Potja outside Kyiv.
In various Ukrainian media, Sanna Marin is seen wearing a life jacket as she appears around Irvine. The visit also included a trip to Botja, the Finnish government wrote in a press release.
These two suburbs of Kyiv were badly damaged by the Russian invasion. A Ukrainian journalist posted a photo of an earnest Marine on Twitter during his visit to Irvine and wrote, “The eyes of the Finnish PM say it all.”
During the visit, Sanna Marin met the Ukrainian President. Volodymyr Zelensky posted on his Instagram account a series of photos of him with the Finnish Prime Minister. In the post, the president wrote, among other things, that he thanks Marin for the visit and Finland for its support of Ukraine.
Marin stressed the need to increase support for both Ukraine and sanctions against Russia, and also discussed Ukraine’s EU membership application.
“It is important to set concrete milestones for Ukraine on the country’s path towards EU membership,” Marine said in a press release.
During the visit, Marine and Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Gmyhal signed a framework agreement for cooperation in the education sector, according to the press release.
