Representatives of the US Department of Defense told Fox News that several Russian warships are on their way to Odessa, a city of one million people, and an attack is scheduled for Thursday. So far, the Russian invasion has not reached Odessa, which is located on the Black Sea and is the country’s third largest city.
According to the information, the ships are on their way from the annexed Karim Peninsula. In recent days, intense attacks have hit the cities of Mariupol and Kherson, also located in southern Ukraine.
Bloomberg writes that the attack on Odessa may have been delayed due to bad weather. The Russian ships left Karim and several days ago there were reports of an imminent attack, but this has not yet happened. One expert told the news agency that it was becoming clear that Russia wanted to create a corridor in southern Ukraine between Crimea and the Moldavian Autonomous Region – in such cases, Odessa was a prime target.
