Matteo Fiacava, mayor of the small Italian fishing town of Portofino, has had enough of the selfie-hunting tourists.
Therefore, bases are now being introduced in and around the most popular places in the tourist resort, report BBC.
Tourists risk a fine of up to SEK 2,750 if they stop and take selfies.
The reason is that the number of tourists stopping to take pictures creates traffic jams and clogs the streets and lanes. Mayor Matteo Fiacava described the situation as “total chaos,” according to the newspaper BBC.
Portofino is a popular tourist destination that annually attracts elite celebrities. In the late summer of 2022, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Parker held their wedding in the small fishing town and over the years, stars like Lana Del Rey, Rihanna, and couple Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jennifer Lopez, and Oprah Winfrey have been glimpsed on the streets.
The new rules actually came into force over the Easter weekend and will apply during the high season, until October.
