Led by towering Giannis Antetokonmo, the Milwaukee Bucks cut the NBA Finals to 1:2 against the Phoenix Suns.
After 42 points in Game Two, Antetokounmpo added 41 points on Sunday night and also led the Bucks to a 120:100 victory with smart actions, 13 rebounds and six assists. In Game 4 Thursday night (3:00AM CST, Stream:Dawn), the Bucks can level again as hosts in front of their home fans.
The comparison to Michael Jordan was too much for Antetokounmpo after his celebratory performance. “I am not Michael Jordan. Four games of 40 points? One by one?” asked the Greek after his second game in a row with at least 40 points and then said again emphatically: “I am not Michael Jordan.”
The Chicago Bulls basketball legend scored more than 40 points in four consecutive games in the 1993 NBA Finals against the Suns. Even if Antetokounmpo does not reach this mark, it is of great interest to the Milwaukee Bucks.
Booker disappointed
Phoenix star Devin Booker had just ten points for the Suns and had a disappointing evening, Chris Paul not being able to lead the Suns as decisively as he did with the two wins at the start. On the other hand, Antetokounmpo, who was voted twice as the best player in the NBA, knew very well how to make the right decision in most situations. He even hit 13 of 17 free throws.
Coach Mike Budenholzer also praised his star qualities in defense. “If he does something consciously out of everything, he’s the best,” said Budenholzer. “He does whatever it takes to help us.”
Finals are about a lot for both teams. The Suns never won a title in the NBA, and the Bucks’ only championship was 50 years ago. They last had the chance in 1974 and lost in seven games against the Boston Celtics.
