A new mission to prevent activities linked to violent extremism from receiving public funds

The government commissions the Crime Prevention Council (Brå) to make preparations to establish a support function at the Center for Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) in Brå. The purpose of the support function is to prevent the distribution of public funds to activities associated with violent extremism or other anti-democratic environments.

In recent years, there has been increasing demand for support to prevent public funds from being allocated to activities associated with violent extremism and other anti-democratic environments. The need for support relates to knowledge and the ability to investigate situations where questions may arise about these environments. CVE has extensive knowledge and experience in matters of violent extremism and therefore plays a central role in the work.

We must prevent public funds from being allocated to violent extremism and other anti-democratic environments. Justice Minister Gunnar Strömer says this mission is an important part of integrating the government's new strategy against violent extremism and terrorism.

The government recently presented a new unified national strategy to combat violent extremism and terrorism. One of the goals of the new strategy is to not allocate any public funds to anti-democratic activities. Appointing Brå is an important part of the work to achieve the strategy's objectives.

The task includes making preparations to establish a support function at CVE. Preparations should be made based on the proposals made in the final report Proper Recipient – Review and Integrity (SOU 2021:99).

The assignment must be reported by October 15, 2024 at the latest.
