Everything started as planned. In the 27th minute, Raheem Sterling ran well into the penalty area and as he was already in the final row the ball bounced off the sixteenth, from which Ruben Diaz crashed. Before the end of the first half, Bernardo Silva raised the bar after a model move. Gabriel Jesus gave him the ball and Silva did not think for long, but hit immediately.

Manchester City had to shudder almost throughout the second half to maintain their lead. Olly Watkins, who had already scored a contact goal in the 47th minute, scored from a corner kick. Aston Villa attacked threateningly, and Carney Sukwomek did not take advantage of the situation. His shot from pure position was only stopped by Ederson as he knew it.
