Carlos Sainz lost less than a second to Max Verstappen at the end of the Canadian Grand Prix. The Spaniard was one step closer to his first Formula One victory. “We tried everything,” admitted Sainz, who praised Ferrari for making progress in terms of race speed.

Max Verstappen’s Canadian Grand Prix victory saw Red Bull Racing achieve six straight victories in the 2022 season. A situation that was hard to imagine at the end of March, when Ferrari was impressed by the speed and the Red Bulls faced a number of technical problems.
But Carlos Sainz’s good performance at the Canadian Grand Prix is proof that Ferrari has improved recently in terms of race speed and that Red Bull is not too confident. “I am very happy with the speed and the way we put pressure on Max throughout the race,” the Real Madrid driver told the Sky Sports cameras.
– We’ve tried everything. The pit stop moment was fitting, and it seemed like everything had to be on the strategic side. We were very, very close to winning. I see a lot of positives after this race and will look for a win in the next round – added Sainz.

The Spaniard helped neutralize him at the end of the race, reducing Verstappen’s advantage to zero. – You’ve pushed to the max. I did not leave a centimeter of free space near the bars, and similarly when braking. I used battery power to the fullest – Ferrari driver revealed.
– I tried everything, but in the end we ran out of speed to overtake Max. I lacked the speed to get close enough to launch an attack. On the plus side, we were faster. We were faster throughout the race, there wasn’t enough room to overtake, Sainz said.
Interestingly, Verstappen sees it in a similar way. The Red Bull driver thinks what saved him is that his car is faster on the straights. “We are fortunate that our car is so strong this year,” said Verstappen.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finished second in fifth. However, Monaco had to break through the 19th starting grid after receiving a fine for replacing the engine.
