Head of Finnish Foreign Ministry addresses the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border

– Belarus is taking advantage of the situation with shame, according to the information we have, about 50 flights a week from Arab countries and Turkey are coming to the capital of Minsk – Havisto said on the Yle TV show on Monday evening.

According to the Minister, there are still sanctions on the range of solutions available to Europe, and the EU will not be able to withdraw in this new situation, especially in Belarus, where human rights are being severely violated. – We must establish a ceiling for Belarusian operations – he added.

The program stressed that thousands of people in Minsk are ready to march towards the western border of Belarus.

At the same time, the Finnish politician acknowledged that in his opinion, Minskin’s current actions on refugees were not driven by Russia, but by Lukashenko’s retaliation for previous EU actions.

On the other hand, when asked about the possible actions of Finland during the arrival of similar refugees, he replied that the recommendation for the full withdrawal of asylum applications in retaliation was “beyond question”.

Havisto argued that this would lead to “changes in the rules of the game” as a result of international agreements, and that newcomers in need of humanitarian assistance could always be on board and endanger their lives and health.
