Taufkirchen (dpa) – electronic weapons manufacturer Hensoldt, along with other companies, has received an order from the Bundeswehr worth billions. Hensoldt announced on Wednesday in Taufkirchen, Upper Bavaria, the signing of a contract for the development, production and integration of the Pegasus reconnaissance system, including Bombardier Global 6000 aircraft and associated assessment stations.
A total of nearly 30 companies, mostly from Germany, are involved in the $1 billion contract, Hensoldt explained. According to previous information from the Ministry of Defense, about 1.54 billion euros are available for the Pegasus project. After deducting VAT, it comes to 1.25 billion euros, which is shared by the companies involved. A company spokesperson said upon request that a larger portion of the amount would remain with Hensoldt.
According to the information, Lufthansa Technik is supposed to purchase the aircraft from the manufacturer Bombardier and be responsible for the required modifications. The plan is to transform the cabin of the aircraft and implement reconnaissance technology. According to the information, Hensoldt works as a general contractor and is also responsible for the production of reconnaissance technology.
