Hunter Biden, the son of US President Joe Biden, said angrily on Wednesday that he refuses to testify about his dealings behind closed doors in Congress. The case relates to the process of removing his father.

The impeachment process that Republicans in the House of Representatives are preparing against Joe Biden revolves around accusing him – during his time as Vice President of Barack Obama – of trying to enrich his family.

The impeachment process is about abuse of power and alleged corruption, and at the center are Hunter Biden’s often internationally questioned dealings in Ukraine.

Hunter is called to testify

“My father was not financially involved in my business,” Hunter Biden said outside the Capitol.

He continued: – Not as a practicing lawyer, not as a member of the board of directors of Burisma (the Ukrainian gas giant), not in my partnership with Chinese businessmen in the private sector, and not in my investments at home or abroad.

The allegations were the subject of a congressional hearing on Wednesday, where Hunter Biden was called to testify.

But Hunter Biden refused to testify behind closed doors, saying he could instead testify at a “public hearing.”

“He lied over and over again.”

– There is no justice or decency in what these Republicans are doing. “They lied over and over again about every aspect of my personal and professional life,” he said.

In response, the House Oversight Committee announced that it would initiate contempt of Congress proceedings against Hunter Biden.

Later on Wednesday (US time), a vote is expected to be held in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives on whether to adopt another step towards formal impeachment against Joe Biden.
