Intel Core i5-12400 tested. AMD has a big problem

The first tests of the Intel Core i5-12400 processor appeared on the Chinese forum Chiphell. If they are correct, then AMD has a problem.

The first processor tests appeared on the Chinese Chiphell Forum Intel Core i5-12400, i.e. the model with a closed multiplier. Although this has not been officially announced yet, its appearance is only a matter of time. If the results are correct, this is a much better unit than the Ryzen 5 5600X.

Intel Core i5-12400 has 6 cores (P only) and supports 12 threads. It has 18MB of L3 cache and clock speed from 3.0GHz to 4.6GHz at Boost. The processor’s TDP is 65W. Official pricing is not yet known, but rumors say it will cost around $210 for the standard model and $180 for the F variant (without the iGPU).

Intel Core i5-12400 – Performance

What about performance? This looks very good in all tests, whether industrial or gaming, the Core i5-12400 performs better than the Ryzen 5 5600X. Variations range from a few frames to several frames per second, depending on the title. Sometimes it’s smaller, other times it’s bigger, but in every test Intel proves it’s better.

However, it is known that performance itself is not everything. Power consumption is also important, which is not the strong point of the Alder Lake models. However, the Intel Core i5-12400 performs very well. At maximum load, it consumes less than 80 watts of power. For comparison, the Ryzen 5 5600X can eat up to 112W.

Core i5-12400 is also cooler. When loaded with AIDA64, its temperature rises to only 60°C. In the same scenario, the Ryzen 5 5600X reaches a score of 86. So the difference is big. Even Intel’s stock cooler kept the CPU at 70-80 degrees, lower than AMD’s.

Given these findings, it’s hard not to conclude that AMD has a major problem. Of course, the Reds still have an ace up their sleeve in the form of updated 3D V-Cache models.which is expected to provide a 15 percent increase in gaming performance. However, if the above tests are correct, then the Intel model should be cooler and more economical, which can be a deciding factor for many people.
