The Israeli Ministry of Defense announced that the United States has approved the sale of the “Raed” Arrow 3 anti-ballistic missile defense system to Germany.

The military deal is said to be the largest ever for Israel – worth just over SEK 38 billion.

The Arrow 3 missile defense system, or Hetz 3 as it is called in Hebrew, was developed and produced by Israel and the United States.

The system is designed to shoot down ballistic missiles above the Earth’s atmosphere, from a distance of up to 2,400 km.

The announcement of the US government’s approval came from the US State Department on Thursday, Israel’s Defense Ministry wrote in a statement.

“The Israeli Ministry of Defense, the German Federal Ministry of Defense and Israel Aerospace Industries will sign an important defense contract worth $3.5 billion (about 38 billion Swedish kronor),” the statement said.

In the statement, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant described the agreement as “the largest in Israel’s history.”

The final agreement is expected to be signed by the end of 2023, after being approved by the parliaments of both Germany and Israel, according to the Defense Ministry.

The Arrow 3 was first used by Israel in 2017 and Israel considers it a protection against attacks from Syria and Iran.
