The agreement between Telia and Viaplay in Norway and Finland is about to expire – and a conflict has broken out over an extension, according to Dagens industri.
Neither party has previously confirmed the conflict, but Telia has now contacted its customers in Norway and Denmark.
“We are working hard to reach an agreement, but if it is not reached, Viaplay channels and streaming services will unfortunately no longer be available from the beginning of February 2024.”says the Norwegian message, according to DI.
It could hit hard against struggling Viaplay
According to the newspaper's information, the agreement should be worth “hundreds of millions” and that the failure to agree has severely harmed Viaplay, which is suffering from a financial crisis.
Telia's communications director Tobias Gyhlénius wrote to Di that customers would be compensated if an agreement was not reached.
“But I want to be clear that we are working to reach an agreement with Viaplay in a timely manner so that our customers can access their content on an ongoing basis.” He writes for the newspaper.
