The US and Britain stand behind Israel – accusing Iran of attacking ships

On Friday, Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid called for international action. This is after Thursday’s attack on a ship belonging to an Israeli-owned shipping company in which two people were killed. The foreign minister also tweeted on Friday that he had instructed Israeli diplomats to press for UN action against “Iranian terrorism.”

The United States is behind it

Now the United States and Britain are standing behind Israel and pointing out that Iran is responsible for Thursday’s attack. On Sunday, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said his country was convinced that Iran carried out the attack, Reuters reported.

Britain also commented on the attack.

“We believe this attack was deliberate, targeted and a clear violation of international law by Iran,” British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said on Sunday.

Iran denies these allegations

At the same time, Iran denies involvement in Thursday’s attack, describing the accusations as baseless. Saeed Khatibzadeh, a spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, said on Sunday that Iran was not involved in the attack.

The Mercer Street is Japanese owned but operated by Zodiac Maritime’s Israeli shipping company. According to the company, the ship was on its way from Dar es Salaam in Tanzania to the city of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates. After the attack, a US Navy card protected the damaged ship, according to the shipping company. On Saturday, the State Department announced that the United States would assist in the investigation.
