German tennis player Alexander Schwerev won the Olympic gold medal at the Singers Competition in Tokyo. In the final, she defeated Karen Kachanova of the Russian Olympic Committee 6: 3, 6: 1. The bronze was won by Spaniard Pablo Carino Pasta.
Sverev, who made his Olympic debut, became the first German Olympic champion in the men’s singles. It took less than 80 minutes for the 24-year-old tennis player from Hamburg to beat Kachano.

In Saturday’s match for third place, Karino Busta defeated Novak Djokovic 6: 4, 6: 7 (6-8), 6: 3. The Serb lost to Sverre in the semifinals, cutting the way for the so-called Golden Slam, which he won in four Grand Slams (Djokovic has already won three) and the Olympics in one year.
In the first round, Kamil Majjarsak was eliminated from the match, in the second match – Hubert Hargas.
