24h Le Mans with F1 is the most famous race in the world. This is evidenced by, inter alia, the maximum speeds achieved by the drivers. Even Robert Kubica admired the past’s achievements in 24 Hours of Le Mans.

In Poland, no one needs to get acquainted with Formula 1, for which Robert Kubica was so famous. The situation is slightly different with the Le Mans 24h race, although it has a very long history and is considered the most famous race in the world. After Kubica debuted at 24h Le Mans a year ago, the awareness of Poles about the long-distance competition is gradually increasing.
The supercars and LMP2 we can see at WEC endurance races and the 24 Hours of Le Mans are similar in performance to F1 cars. There were times when prototypes racing on the iconic Circuit de la Sarthe were faster than F1 cars.
In 1988, Roger Dorchi, who had a Peugeot WMP 88 at his disposal, traveled in a Mulsanne at a speed of 405 km / h.

When Robert Kubica discovered that the official Le Mans 24 hour speed record was up to 405 km/h, it caught his attention. – 405! Do you understand ?! Not 305! 405! And that’s 35 years ago! Impressive – said the Prema Orlen driver.
To estimate the speed of the 24-hour Le Mans record, please quote data from F1. In 2005, Juan Pablo Montoya on the Monza track, driving a McLaren, accelerated to 372.6 km / h. However, in the 2016 season, this record was broken by Valtteri Bottas. The Finnish car, which was then represented by Mercedes, accelerated to 378 km / h on a straight road in Baku.
Robert Kubica will enter this year’s Le Mans 24h at the wheel of an LMP2 class car. The prototype of the Oreca 07-Gibson at a French facility is capable of accelerating to about 330-340 km / h. It depends on track conditions, tire condition and aerodynamic package.
