Italian relay, gold medalist in the 4x100m medley, France empty-handed

The last seven World Championship finals were held on Saturday in Budapest (Hungary). Justin Reese won the 50m backstroke, ahead of fellow countryman Hunter Armstrong. The first city was initially disqualified after it came into contact with the wall infrequently, but the penalty was rescinded. Poland’s Kswarey Masiuk wins the bronze.

Lithuanian Ruta Milutit won gold in the 50m breaststroke. With a time of 29.70, the 25-year-old swimmer beat Italian teenager Benedetta Pellato (17), the world record holder. South African Lara van Niekerk ranked third.

Damien Jolie delayed in the 1500m freestyle

Gregorio Baltrinieri won the 1500m freestyle. At the same time, the Italian achieved the second best world performance ever and a new European record (14’32”80). Paltrinieri defeated American Robert Fink (14’36”70), Olympic champion, and German Florian Willbrook (14’36”94), world champion. As for Damien Jolie, it ranked eighth and last.

Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom won the 50-meter freestyle race. With a time of 23.98, the 28-year-old is ahead of Poland’s Katarzyna Wasek. Australian Meg Harris and American Erica Brown, third, completed the podium. This is the second gold medal of the week for Sjöström, who already claimed the 50m butterfly final on Friday.

In Budapest, she also won the silver medal in the 100-meter freestyle. With twenty world medals now, it’s two units closer than American Katie Ledecky, who has far more gold medals than Sweden’s (19 vs. 10).

The women’s 400m medley confirmed the emergence of a very young swimmer at 15: Summer McIntosh. After winning the gold medal in the 200-meter butterfly on Wednesday, the Canadian (4’32”04) bested Americans Katie Grimes (4’32”67) and Emma Wyant (4’36”00). Local star and world record holder, Hungarian Katinka Hoszów, finished fourth (4’37”89). The reigning Olympic champion in the major, Japan’s Yui Ohashi, is fifth (4’37”99).

French 5th place in the men’s 4 x 100m medley relay

The Italian relay won the gold in the men’s 4x100m medley. Thomas Ciccone, Nicolo Martinini, Federico Bordisso and Alessandro Merisi won with a time of 3’27’51, ahead of Americans Ryan Murphy, Nick Fink, Michael Andrew, Ryan Heald (3’27’79) and Britain’s Luke Greenbank. James Welby, James Gay and Tom Dean (3’31’ 31). French fifth place (3’32”37).

The Americans also shined in the world’s last race, the 4x100m medley relay. At 3’53”78, Reagan Smith, Lily King, Tori Husky, and Claire Karzan beat the Australians (Kylie McKeon, Gina Strauch, Brianna Thrussell and Molly O’Callaghan at 3’54”25), the Canadians (Kylie Maas), Rachel Nicole, Margaret McNeill and Penny Oleksiak at 3′ 55”01). The Frenchman finished eighth and final (3’59”94).
