Leo Messi is a free player. What about his future?

Lionel Messi’s contract with FC Barcelona has expired. He’s been a free player since July 1. So questions about where he will play next season are coming back.

Leo Messi came close to leaving Barcelona last year. A sharp dispute erupted between the Argentine and the Spanish club in late August, when the footballer informed the Barcelona authorities of his intention to leave the team. However, the club indicated a clause in the contract that Messi’s departure without the consent of the “Duma Catalunya” would be possible only if the footballer’s future employer paid an astronomical sum of 700 million euros. After a week of disagreement, the Argentine decided to stay in Blaugran.

Now Messi’s contract has expired. The footballer is already officially a free player, so the media and fans are once again wondering if the Argentine will get a new employer.

The president of the Catalan club, Joan Laporta, was asked about the future of Leo Messi. In an interview with El Transistor, Laporta confirmed that the club wants the Argentine to stay in Barcelona. “Everything is on the right track. (…) We are looking for the best solution for both” – he stressed.

The club’s finances could be a problem. It has long been known that FC Barcelona has more than a billion debts.

The challenge is huge because it will require a lot of sacrifices from us. I am ready Laporta noted.

Sergio Aguero, Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia have joined Duma Catalunya in the current transfer window.
