In recent weeks, Rafai Jekevich has been in Poland, working as a TV expert for TVP and the sports channel during Euro 2020. After Poland’s participation in the group stage ended, the goalkeeper returned to Augsburg, with his colours. Play next season in the Bundesliga.
Earlier, the goalkeeper said that his future should be clarified soon. On Tuesday, we received an official announcement from the club, thanks to which we learned that Rafai Djekević will remain in Augsburg for the coming years.

We are pleased that thanks to Rafai’s contract extension, we can talk about stability as a goalkeeper in the coming years. In the previous season, Rafai was an important support for the team. He has ambition and many goals he wants to achieve with Augsburg – sporting director Stefan Reuter tells the club’s official website.
The 33-year-old Polish has 36 games with Augsburg on his account. He joined the club a year ago, when his previous contract with Union Berlin expired. Rafa Gikiewicz has received very good reviews for his performance.
– I feel at home in Augsburg. I can’t wait for the next days at the club, because my dream is to play in front of our fans in a full stadium – adds the goalkeeper.
In the previous season, the Polish had the largest number of interventions among all goalkeepers in the Bundesliga – there were as many as 129 of them, and his situation was expected to attract the interest of better teams, but Djekevich decided to stay in Augsburg.
Rafał Gikiewicz’s new contract is valid until June 30, 2023, but the club has guaranteed itself the possibility of extending it for another year.
