Krefeld The former crowd favorite of the Penguins wants to run in the German Cup for the Olympics and the World Cup. After leaving Krefeld, he will play in front of spectators for the first time at the Yayla Arena in the tournament.
After EHC Ingolstadt’s home win against Eisbären Berlin on Sunday, Daniel Beta was in a hurry. Soon some things were packed, and then the family set off on the 559-kilometre journey from the Danube to the Lower Rhine by car. “I was going home anyway, regardless of whether I was in the German Cup or not,” he explained in an interview with RP two weeks ago.
Now he is at home and has been nominated for the traditional championship of the German Ice Hockey Federation: “I am happy to be back. Unfortunately, I injured my hand in qualifying last year, and therefore I missed a possible participation in the World Cup. “Before the next World Cup in May, the Olympic Games in Beijing were on Agenda in February. For the nearly 35-year-old center, it would be the icing on the cake to be there. “I try to recommend myself to perform well in Ingolstadt and in international matches for the national team. I know that for the national coach it is only the performance that matters and not the names. I think I have a chance like many other players,” he said on Monday before arriving at the first meeting of DEB selection in Yayla Arena at 6 pm.
It must have been a strange feeling for him when he emptied his ice hockey bag as he had been his usual seat as a penguin player for 17 years: “The cabin has been rebuilt a bit. But of course a lot of memories will go through my head. Playing at home is always nice.”
In pre-season he was a guest with Ingolstadt on March 31 at the DEL match in the “Living Room”. At that time there were no spectators in the stands. After just 31 seconds, Pietta had to go into the penalty area. He failed to score a 6-5 win for the Panthers. The game was subsequently rated 5-0 for Ingolstadt because Martin Carsumus was not included in the game report.
This season there was a Petit reunion with the Panthers winning 3-1 with the Penguins. He wasn’t hurt there either. At that point, things weren’t going as expected for his team. Then I went up. The Panthers are now within walking distance of the top six in the table. After 20 missions, he received five hits and ten assists. In the previous season, after 30 points and three playoffs, there was a 21-point scorer (5/16). After a lull, he scored a goal in the victory over Berlin on Sunday: “The time has come, it has benefited me well again. Our goal is to qualify directly,” says the center. He does not yet want to reveal whether he will play with the Panthers next season. But Danube insiders firmly assume this. Returning to the penguins is out of the question. Of course, he follows the events in Krefeld, especially since he talks with his old friend Martin Szyminsky on the phone from time to time: “From the results and points, the team has settled. I can’t say more about that. “
With national coach Toni Soderholm having 15 strikers in the German Cup, it is not yet clear whether Peyta will be on the ice in the first game against Russia on Thursday. But this is expected. In the previous year, he formed a series of attacks with Marcel Neubels and Daniel Fischbuch.
Regardless of when and with whom he plays, Pietta is looking forward to the tournament and to the KEV fans: “It is always good to see so many familiar faces. In international matches, everyone is a fan of Germany, no matter what club the players are from.
