As in 2018, Côte d’Ivoire will be absent from the 2022 World Cup after its defeat in Cameroon on Tuesday (1-0), which joins Al Sadd, just like Tunisia.
Algeria, Nigeria, Tunisia and Cameroon on Tuesday secured the last qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup for the Africa zone, joining Mali, Egypt, Senegal, Morocco, Ghana and the Democratic Republic of Congo that were already guaranteed to participate in these qualifiers. Five playoffs in the second leg matches, which will be drawn on December 18th in Doha.
The biggest loser of the evening is Cote d’Ivoire, dominated by Cameroon (1-0) and who will miss the World Cup for the second consecutive edition, after participating in the previous three (2006, 2010, 2014).
Algeria, the African champions, confirmed their qualification by drawing with Group A runner-up, Burkina Faso. The same scenario in Group C, where Nigeria contented itself with sharing points (1-1) with Cape Verde, who had to win to take first place from the Super Eagles.
Finally, Tunisia quickly folded the case against Zambia (3-1) by scoring three goals before the end of the first half, to secure first place in Group B.
