In October 2021, the murders were committed. Espen Andersen Bråthen was armed with a bow, dozens of arrows, and several knives of different sizes. He attacked several victims in Kongsberg – including inside a grocery store.

Five people were killed and three others were injured.

In 2022, the district court ruled. Espen Andersen Braathen was sentenced to forensic psychiatric care because he suffers from chronic paranoid schizophrenia.

But the killer has now announced that he wants to avoid forensic psychiatric care and is therefore serving his sentence in prison instead, according to Drammen Tidende.

Attorney General: We do not see any change

Prosecutor Andreas Christiansen opposes the will of Espen Andersen Braathen. It is believed that there are still reasons for compulsory care.

– We appreciate that the conditions still exist and we do not see any change since the ruling, he told DT.

On January 16, the application will be heard in court.
