Minister of Social Affairs Jacob Vorsmed during a council meeting in Brussels

On May 14, Social Affairs Minister Jakob Forsmed will travel to Brussels to participate in a Ministerial Council meeting with EU Sports Ministers.

From 13 to 14 May, the EYCS (Education, Youth, Culture and Sport) Council will meet in Brussels. Jakob Forsmed will participate in the Sports Ministers' Meeting on Tuesday 14 May, as well as in an informal lunch discussion on the role of women in sport and the conditions for gender equality in sport.

Among other things, the Council is expected to approve the Council's decision on the new EU Action Plan for Sport. The current action plan, which was defined in November 2020, is valid until June 30, 2024. The new action plan is proposed to be implemented from July 1, 2024 until December 31, 2027.

During the spring, the Belgian Presidency also chose to focus on the issue of the contribution of self-regulated sports to supporting active and healthy lifestyles in the European Union. During the meeting, the Council must approve its conclusions on the matter.

The council must also discuss how to promote nonprofit participation in sports.

The Acting Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine was also invited to report on the consequences of Russian aggression against Ukraine on the Ukrainian sports sector.
