The promoter of the world championship, announced that the Russian Formula 1 Grand Prix, which has been organized since 2014 in Sochi, on the shores of the Black Sea, will move from 2023 to Saint Petersburg.
The event will still take place in 2021 and 2022 at the Sochi Autodrome before moving the following year to Igora Drive, about 80 kilometers north of Saint Petersburg. The Russian Grand Prix was added in 2014 for the first time to the F1 calendar. Sochi, which hosted the Winter Olympics in the same year, was chosen to host it.

In 2021, the Russian Grand Prix is scheduled to start on September 26, and it should be Round 15 of the 23rd this season, a record. Grand Prix promoters announced in 2017 an agreement until 2025 with Formula 1. With the move to St Petersburg, the term of the contract that is now in force has not been determined.
