Jaguar served as a race management lesson in Sunday’s second round of the New York E-Prix, winning thanks to Sam Bird, but escaping the double in the penultimate ring.
After securing the front row on the starting net, Bird and Mitch Evans dominated the field from start to finish, playing the teamwork card to ensure they retained the advantage.
However, Evans struggled with a loss of performance on his tires, and light contact with the wall eventually brought him down to 13th at the end of the race. Thus Nick Cassidy (Virgin) and Antonio da Costa (DS Techeetah) made it to the podium, while the two Porsche jets, with Pascal Wehrlein and Andre Lotterer on the wheel, finished the top five.
Bird also collected 29 points in the standings to take first place in the drivers’ standings, with a total of 81 points. However, da Costa and Robin Frijn (Virgin) are only five points behind the new leader.
Drivers will resume the event in two weeks at the London ePrix, and both races will be broadcast on TVA Sports.
