Grape Race: Remco Evenepoel hopes to win his pick of the worlds

After winning the Tour of Denmark on Sunday, Remco Evenepoel is back in Belgium to compete in the 61st Grape Race on Thursday in Overijse, a race considered as a rehearsal before the Worlds to be held at the end of September in Flanders.

«“It’s always good to ride at home,” said Deceuninck-QuickStep rider Remco Evenepoel, who returned to Belgium to compete in the Grape Race in Overijse on Thursday. “I came back with good feelings from the Tour of Denmark, I gained confidence in it, it is important. I will continue to work, my season is not over,” adds the 21-year-old rider, who has not yet been officially selected for the World Championships.

“My teammates Julian Alaphilippe and Kasper Asgren are really confident in their choice,” says Evenpoel. “They are here to get to know the track in case of racing. One month left before the world championships. A lot can happen by then. Anyway, I have the opportunity to show myself and go get my pick.”

“No one is better than Wout in Belgium”

Federal coach Sven Vanthornhout has already hinted that Woot van Aert will captain Belgium at the World Championships. “It’s the right choice,” Remco Evenepoel agrees. “No one is better than Wout in Belgium when he’s 100% this season. We’re going to have to go down to him for him. We’ll gladly do it on a track where you’ll have the chances of winning. As a Belgian you obviously want to be involved in worlds in your country, but it’s not for me to I decide that.”
