On Friday, the government decided to classify monkeypox as a generally serious disease. But this does not mean that people need to worry, according to Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallingren (South).

There is no reason to link monkeypox to the COVID-19 virus and all that it raises in people when it comes to concerns about disease and social measures. There will be no restrictions with restrictions on how we live because of monkeypox. There are no such plans, says Hallingren SvD.

On the other hand, it is important to classify the disease as dangerous in general, the minister believes, since it will then be subject to notification according to the rules of the Infectious Diseases Act and it will be possible to track and reduce infection.

Other common dangerous diseases include, for example, salmonella, HIV and chlamydia.
