Now, NASA has revealed the spacesuit that astronauts will wear when they travel to the moon during the Artemis program. The suit was created by Axiom Space and is supposed to be designed to improve the mobility of astronauts moving around on the surface of the moon.
The suits will be used during the period of Artemis III, when the first women and non-whites will be allowed to walk on the moon. The prototype has a dark gray color, designed by costume designer Esther Marquis, who worked on the TV series “For All Mankind,” but the actual suit that will be used will be white for warmth.
The new helmet has features such as a light strip across the helmet bubble to help astronauts see better and an HD video camera on the side so that the astronauts’ POV can be broadcast live on Earth. Another difference compared to previous suits is that the astronauts step into it from behind rather than up and down.
