Marcus Thuram Steps Forward – Takes a Stand Against the National Group | soccer

The far-right National Rally party – led by Marie Le Pen – received twice the support in the European Union elections as Emmanuel Macron's party.

After the loss, the French President announced new elections for Parliament.

At the same time as the political chaos continues, the French national football team prepares to attend the premiere of the European Championship in Germany. Of the stars on the team, it's been relatively quiet in terms of politics.

But now Marcus Thuram is speaking out.

In a press conference ahead of the opening match against Austria, Thuram expressed his concerns about the national team.

– The situation is very dangerous. “After the game against Canada (on Sunday during Election Day, note:) we were all a little shocked in the locker room,” Thuram says.

“It's not enough to say that”

The 26-year-old, who is the son of Lillian Thuram and named after Jamaican activist Marcus Garvey, continues:

– In our team, I think, or at least I hope, that everyone shares the same opinion as me. I understand that some say we need to go and vote, but I don't think it's enough to say that. We must also explain how we ended up here and the seriousness of the situation.

The Inter winger's statement was widely circulated and received praise.

“The way Marcus Thuram explains his convictions, in a press conference, is remarkable and rare. This is a wonderful young man,” wrote Vincent Duloc, a journalist for L’Equipe. X.

But from parts of the right flank, Thuram was subjected to a counterattack.

Julien O'Doul, a member of parliament for the National Assembly, wrote: “I'm tired of these distinguished lecturers who consider the French to be idiots!” X.
