Mass shooting in California – at least ten dead

The shooting occurred in Monterey Park at 10:30 pm local time during a Chinese New Year celebration, in an area where many Asian companies operate.

Monterey Park is located about 11 kilometers outside of downtown Los Angeles, and the New Year’s Eve celebration is the largest in the area.

Tens of thousands of people are said to have gathered at the festival site when a gunman opened fire, according to reports Los Angeles Times. Many media reported that it is about a dance studio where a party is being held.

Police and emergency services are now working at the scene.

Initially, it was not clear how many people were injured or killed, but police reported Sunday morning to the Associated Press news agency that at least ten people were shot and that another ten people were injured.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the injured were being transferred to several different hospitals at the same time.

The motive is not clear – an armed hunt

The motive for the crime is still unclear, and according to the police, the perpetrator is still at large.

John, 27, lives near the site of the mass shooting. He had just returned home when he heard gunshots and how a car drove away, he told the Los Angeles Times.

– My first concern was that I knew they were celebrating New Year’s Day.

He is said to have then made his way to the scene where he saw one person being thrown on a stretcher and another person injured in the arm.
