Meta Now Allows Crypto Payments via WhatsApp

Unread message: Meta is testing the Novi encrypted wallet via WhatsApp. Will we be sending money via messages soon?

From a tweet by Stefan Kasriel, President Crypto wallet Novi, it turns out that select US users can now send and receive money via WhatsApp. Apparently, the US dollar PAX (USDP) is used for this, i.e. a stable currency that is hedged with the US dollar.

Kasrel stated on Twitter that people are also using WhatsApp to “coordinate sending money to their loved ones, and Novi allows them to do so safely, instantly and for free.” Payments should appear directly in the respective chat.

The Novi manager also clarified that the feature could soon be expanded to more countries once the company knows what beta users think of the function and what the feedback is.

Kasriel also clarified that the privacy of personal messages on WhatsApp is not affected.

Controversial Crypto Wallet

But only recently, the company, which was recently dubbed Facebook, has been harshly criticized. Meta works not only on a crypto wallet, but also on an internal stablecoin called dim.

The project has often been part of heated discussions about the meta and its reliability, as well as the social media giant’s effects on consumers.

At the end of October, Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Meta, received a personal mail. In the mailbox was a letter of complaint from a total of five Democratic senators. Among them was former US presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren. Politicians have called on Zuckerberg to stop Project Novi and thus put an end to the stablecoin Diem.

So far, no one has publicly responded to the message. However, the introduction of the beta feature on WhatsApp can be seen as an answer – even if it is not the answer that senators were hoping for.
