Tokyo, June 2 (EFE). Japanese video game developer and distributor Nintendo announced Wednesday that it will open a gallery showcasing products it has made over 130 years of history, which it hopes to open as early as 2024.
Temporarily christened the Nintendo Show, the gallery is located on the grounds and facilities of the company’s former factory, Oji Ogura Factory, in the company’s native Kyoto prefecture, located in the western Japanese archipelago.
The company said in a statement that the factory “and the grounds surrounding the building will be used as a new showroom to display the many products Nintendo has launched throughout its history.”
The Uji Ogura Factory was built in 1969 in the city of Uji and used primarily to manufacture Japanese playing cards “hanafuda”, the business segment the company focused on when it was founded in the late 19th century.
The facility later served as a customer service center for repairs, and jobs moved to another nearby plant in November 2016.
The company expects that renovation and construction work on the new museum facility, “where historic Nintendo products will be displayed and exhibits and experiences available,” will be completed in the Japanese fiscal year that ends in March 2024.
Nintendo was founded in 1889 by Japanese Fusajiro Yamauchi and grew in popularity as a card maker in Kyoto (where it still exists today).
In 1933 it adopted the name Yamauchi Nintendo and later, in 1951, The Nintendo Play Card, before being renamed Nintendo twelve years later and beginning to experiment with other branches of the company.
Today it is one of the leading companies in the digital entertainment and entertainment sector worldwide.
