Stoltenberg: Heavy weapons and long-range robots for Ukraine

Allies and partner countries have already provided billions of dollars in equipment and humanitarian aid. I expect that we will be able to agree on a comprehensive support package at the NATO summit, says Jens Stoltenberg in Brussels and outlines it, among other things, with heavy weapons and long-range systems.

– We are very focused on expanding our support, adds the Secretary-General to the Minister of Defense.

Jens Stoltenberg held the press conference Before a series of defense ministers of NATO member states meet in Brussels on Wednesday. And in today’s conversation at 6:30 pm there are also representatives of Ukraine, Georgia, Finland, Sweden and the European Union.

On Wednesday, Stoltenberg reiterated his desire to increase NATO membership, specifically with Sweden and Finland. Turkey opposes and wants to postpone the request of countries to the future.

We are in close contact with both Sweden and Finland, I met Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson and President Sauli Niinisto over the weekend, and I am relieved that they are ready to meet the member state of Turkey in some parts, says Jens Stoltenberg, who notes that NATO has helped Ukraine with military equipment training since Russia annexed Crimea in 2014.
