The “lost” president appeared

The “lost” president appeared

Kais Saied has not been seen in public or attended any meetings since March 22 – an absence that has led to rumors of his failure.

On Monday, the presidential palace posted a video on Facebook, the only channel it uses for official statements. In the film, he stands with Prime Minister Naglaa Boudin and denies any rumors about his health, describing them as “a level of insanity that Tunisia has never seen before.”

– The president is absent for two or three days, catches a cold, and becomes a power vacuum problem? He says.

The opposition demanded an explanation for Saeed’s absence, and opposition leader Ahmed Najib al-Shabi indicated that the 65-year-old was ill.

Saied’s absence followed protests against his rule and mass demonstrations against his accusations earlier in March that immigrants were destroying the country.

Since February, the security services have arrested more than 20 high-ranking opposition figures, including politicians, lawyers, and the head of a radio channel critical of the regime.

Saied won the 2019 presidential election with more than 70 percent of the vote after promising to crack down on abuse of power and corruption. But he did not gain the people’s trust.
