The Pope announces: the Synod of the Synod in two sessions

The synodal process that has begun is very much bearing fruit and this requires maturity – Pope Francis emphasizes this at the end Angelus prayer Sunday, October 16, tells us that the Synod of Synods will have two sessions – in October 2023, as previously planned, and in October 2024. Here are the Pope’s words in their entirety:

Dear brothers and sisters! On October 10 last year, the first phase of the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops was inaugurated, on the theme “For a Synodal Church: Community, Participation and Mission”. Since then, the first stage of the Synod in the local churches has begun to listen and discern. The synodal process that has begun to bear fruit is great, but in order to reach full maturity it is necessary not to be in a hurry. Therefore, in order to organize a longer time for the discernment, I have decided that this Synod should be held in two sessions. The first is from October 4 to 29, 2023 and the second is in October 2024. I am sure that this decision can enhance the understanding of the Council as a foundational importance of the Church, and help everyone experience it on a walk with the brothers and sisters who bear witness. To the joy of the gospel.
