In a regularly bombed outskirt of Kharkiv, Ukrainian soldier Vladislav says, Russian attacks alternate between artillery, missile and tank attacks.
– There is nothing here but apartment buildings, schools and nurseries, Vladislav told the Bureau of News Agency on Friday.
While the bombing stopped, residents gathered in the streets outside the multi-storey buildings to cook over an open fire. Many residents remained in the city – despite the lack of water, electricity, and other infrastructure.
The Russian offensive continues in eastern Ukraine, and in Kharkiv, the second largest city in the country, about a fifth of the city’s apartment buildings have been so destroyed that it will not be possible to restore homes, according to the city’s mayor Ihor Terekov.
‘Important tactical progress’
At least one person was killed in new raids in Kharkiv on Saturday evening. Five other people were said to have been injured. Although the city has a large number of employees, Ukraine, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky, has made “tactical progress” in the region, and the city is still under Ukrainian control.
The situation in Kharkiv is difficult. In his last speech, President Volodymyr Zelensky says that our army and our intelligence service have made important tactical progress.
