Windows 11, in addition to a more modern design, brings with it many innovations. Here’s a look at some of the major new features that Windows 10 didn’t have.
Microsoft released Windows 11 for its first compatible PCs and notebooks on October 5th. The automatic update will be rolled out gradually to many devices in the next year. Of course, if you want to get it right away, you can also install it manually and give it a try. If you want to be patient, this article will give you an overview of the update features, which should make working with your computers easier. here we are.
One of the most obvious innovations in Windows 11, in addition to an updated and more modern design, is the standard mode of the start menu: it has been moved from the left side to the center and is also tidy. Microsoft has swapped out live tiles for app icons, which are now similar to smartphone apps.
Some of you may not be used to the reset – but there is a solution: in the settings under Personalization > Taskbar, you will find the taskbar orientation option, where you can choose between center and left.
For users who always have multiple windows and apps open at the same time, the new “Snap” function is a boon. This makes it easy to arrange up to four windows next to or one above the other on your screen. To use this feature, hover your mouse over the maximize window icon, and a small menu will appear in which you can choose from four to six arrangements, depending on the size of your screen. Alternatively, press the key combination Windows + Z. It can be set by clicking on the layout you want.
But that’s not all, because Windows 11 shows your order in the taskbar when you move your mouse pointer over the respective apps. Here you can switch between single app view and snap planning if needed.
With Windows 11, you can also create separate virtual desktops for different purposes and customize them with different background images if you wish. So you can set up desktop computers for gaming, streaming, or other purposes.
Windows 11 brings innovations not only to the virtual desktop, but also to use a second screen. The system can now remember how your windows were arranged on an external monitor. So if you break the connection between the notebook and the display in the future and then re-establish it, all the program windows will end up where you put them before. This seems like a small change, but anyone who works with an external monitor will find it very convenient.
Windows 11 Teams makes the standard messaging app built into the system tray at the factory. But if you are not using the app privately or in a commercial context, it is superfluous in its new prominent position.
To get rid of them to get more space for other apps, open Settings > Personalization & Taskbar. Simply deselect the chat here, and Teams is gone from view.
With Windows 11, Microsoft experimented with the Clock app. Now it can help you focus on some phases of work and study. The so-called focus function can be activated via the option focus sessions Adjust according to your own requirements. In addition to focus times, you can also set goals. The functionality is also related to the Tasks app in Windows 11. You can also have it accompany you musically in focus sessions by linking the tool to Spotify.
If you are in the focus phase, you can also set which notifications should reach you. You can find these under System > media assistant Locate. Under Priority List can be defined more precisely.
What else will be possible soon: You will be able to run Android apps on your Windows PC in the future. The feature announced in June is being developed in collaboration with Intel and Amazon so you can download and install apps from the Amazon App Store.
In terms of integration, it should appear in the system tray and snap into place on the edges of the screen like Windows apps. Until then, take a look at the redesigned Microsoft Store.
Last but not least, the toolbar, which you can call up via a button in the taskbar, is new. The transparent window displays the weather, news, calendar, and other content. You have the option of deciding which items to display yourself. When you click on News and Weather, the Edge browser opens with more details. It is not possible to choose an alternative browser to open links. Microsoft has also unnecessarily complicated the standard browser change with Windows 11.
In general, it can be said that the new Windows version leaves a more rounded and visually appealing impression than Windows 10. However, the first version of the new Windows generation does not look completely round. Remnants of ancient designs can still be found here and there in the deeper regions of the system. Microsoft is on the right track, but the manufacturer should re-change the browser in a simpler way, among other things. This kind of nudity only annoys users. Additionally, it goes against Microsoft’s general philosophy of wanting to be more open.
