“We can work to do great things during a pandemic, but we need a clear mandate to understand what Canadians want in the coming years,” Trudeau, who runs a minority government, said.
The 49-year-old prime minister announced new elections last month – when he led public opinion – arguing that Canadians should have a say in who they want to be responsible for the costs of dealing with the pandemic.

But since then, support for Trudeau has waned and political opponents have criticized the decision to hold the election. According to opinion polls, Erin O’Toole of the Conservative Party is now as popular as Trudeau.
“This is not the time to have an election during a pandemic,” O’Toole said during the discussion.
– I think it is pointless, SPNP Jagmeet Singh commented on the elections later in September.
In addition to Trudeau, O’Toole and Singh, Yves-François Blanchet of the Quebec block also participated. The debate is described as somewhat heated, as the leaders of the four parties boycotted and talked to each other, but without a clear winner.
The debate was the first of three debates to be held before the elections.

The House of Representatives consists of 338 members and the largest parties are the Liberal Party and the Conservative Party. However, all 338 seats on paper are currently empty due to the dissolution of Parliament ahead of the September 20 elections.
The Senate consists of 105 members.
