During Thursday, the police in Västra Götaland said, on their website, that they had identified a new method regarding phone fraud: perpetrators calling from the number 010-114 14.
This week, police in the Western Province noticed cases where the number 010-114 14 was in the phone screen when the scammers called.
Police: “Serious.”
In another case, the perpetrator must have stated that he was from the bank in the first place. When the plaintiff did not believe it and hung up, the phone rang again.
“The offender then stated that he was from the police and that they knew someone had attempted to carry out a fraud and asked for bank details in order to handle the case,” the police wrote and states:
“Never mention 010-114 14 when the police call. The police never call and ask for information about account numbers, logins by bank ID, personal codes, or similar.”
We want the public to know how sophisticated the scammers are. They are constantly finding new situations and getting braver, says police press officer Hans-Jürgen Ostler, giving his point that scammers hint at the police phone number:
– She was serious.
– It (fraud) in many cases is very tragic, people lose significant savings. We want to prevent that as much as possible.
Impersonating a police officer is a crime in itself, right?
– Yes it is true. It is punishing in itself.
