In the prestigious poll for the best footballer in the world in 2021, Lewandowski finished second behind Argentina’s Lionel Messi with a small number of points.
– In such a situation, it is important to leave this failure quickly, but to gain energy from it and get motivated for greater achievements. And I think the same goes for him. Although he was close to the goal, he did not seem completely frustrated, but it did not pay off. If he was 85, I think it would hurt him even more, Knucklesman told a news conference ahead of the Bundesliga summit on Saturday.
The coach, who is only a year older than the Polish footballer, believes Lewandowski still has a chance to win the prestigious award.
– There is a saying that today’s failure is the beginning of future success. I think the same may be true of “Lewy”. He will get energy from it and score a lot more goals, he concluded.
Like Lewandowski, Nagelsman hopes that on January 17, FIFA, in its poll – conducted among coaches and national team captains – will declare the pole for the second time in a row the best footballer in the world this year.
