Megan Rapinoe and her co-stars reached their goal after years of fighting for equal pay from the NFL.
The income gap between players was closed, tournament rewards were adjusted, for example the World Cup. However, the agreement still had to be signed and approved by the court.
“We have settled our differences and stand together proudly to bring more justice to football,” the two teams said in a joint statement. “Reaching this day has not been easy. We recognize the legacy of those women who fought for and we dedicate this moment to them.”
In particular, the politically committed star Rapinoe, 36, a two-time world champion and Olympic champion, has been fighting for years for “equal pay” in American football. “I know that there are millions of people around the world who are marginalized because of their gender and suffer from the same thing in their jobs,” Rapinoe said during her visit to US President Joe Biden at the White House. “My colleagues and I are there for you.”
