F1. That doesn’t look good. Informal: The race has been canceled due to the Coronavirus

The F1 calendar for the 2021 season contains up to 23 rounds, but it has been emphasized from the start that some events may not happen due to the coronavirus pandemic. On Thursday evening, unofficial information emerged about the cancellation of the Canadian Grand Prix.

The Canadian Grand Prix is on the Formula 1 calendar from June 11 to 13, but the race ended in the black clouds of Gilles Villeneuve. This is due to the fact that promoters of the Canadian F1 Tour are not permitted to accept fans in the stands. This means no income for them, and significant temporary facility construction costs (see here for details).

As Radio Canada announced on Thursday, the decision to cancel the Canadian Grand Prix has already been taken. Health concerns have been given as the official cause. Canadians are concerned about the arrival of more than 2,000. People from Europe will contribute to the spread of COVID-19 in the region.

An F1 spokesperson in an interview with www.0123go.com did not confirm the information about the cancellation of the Canadian Grand Prix. – We continue our talks with the promoter and will not provide any further comments – he said.

In turn, a representative of the Canadian Grand Prix promoters stated that the document referred to by “Radio Canada” is nothing but a letter from the Canadian Health Inspection Authority, which, as a healthcare authority, has doubts about the F1 race in June.

Regardless of what happens next, Formula 1 will not have a day off from June 11-13. Turkey is ready to replace Canada. An additional argument for organizing the Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul Park on this date is the fact that the queen of motorsport will visit Azerbaijan a week in advance (June 4-6). There are good airlines between Baku and Istanbul, which makes F1 logistics easier.
