Football EM 2021: Five more teams qualified for the Round of 16

Thanks to Monday’s results, five more teams reached the round of 16 in the European Football Championship. The world champions France, England, the Czech Republic and Sweden entered the knockout stage without a fight. The Swiss, who had been hoping to compete after the last group game, also secured the lead.

The quintet took advantage of the fact that in Groups B and C, after the final preliminary round, third-placed Finland and Ukraine have only three points each. Thus, the five teams, each with four counters, are at least among the top four-thirds of the pool.

The constellation comes because in EM with 24 teams and six groups, only the worst two-thirds of the group in the group do not qualify for the Round of 16.

Four-time world champions Italy, Wales, Belgium and the Netherlands qualified for the knockout stage. Denmark and Austria also reached the second round on Monday evening in groups B and C.

On Saturday, Wales will meet Denmark in Amsterdam (6pm), then four-time world champions Italy will play Austria in London (9pm, all matches in the live stream on SPIEGEL.de).
