Russia’s Gazprom wants to reduce gas shipments to Germany by about 40 percent. The group explained the move with a technical error.
Russia is cutting off gas supplies to Germany via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline in the Baltic Sea by a good 40 percent. Energy company Gazprom announced on Tuesday that only 100 million cubic meters of gas per day can be guaranteed instead of the usual 167 million cubic meters. The rear is missing parts that were supposed to be delivered by the German Siemens group.
For Germany, Nord Stream 1 is the main supply pipeline for Russian gas. The Yamal-Europe line has never been filled before. The transport of Russian gas through Ukraine has also been curtailed, much less than planned. Energy prices have already risen as a result of earlier restrictions, due to generally lower gas flows from Russia to Europe. The completed Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline has yet to be commissioned.
Ministry: Supply is still secured
The Federal Government currently considers the security of Germany’s gas supply to be guaranteed. A spokeswoman for the Federal Ministry of Economy said on Tuesday. “We are monitoring the situation and checking the facts,” the spokeswoman said.
Earlier, the Kremlin announced that Poland, Bulgaria, Finland, the Netherlands and Denmark will no longer receive gas from Russia. Other countries should not be added. Asked if there are new plans to stop gas supplies, spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday, according to Interfax: “No. The system is working, the system has been modified, and those who receive gas are already working under the new system.”
